It was a chance meeting between Ola Kozioł (Łódź, Poland) and Andrew Dixon (London, UK) that brought two elements together, the 'white voice' singing typical of Central and Eastern Europe folk-music culture, and the drones and overtones produced by a single-stringed instrument. The result is Mutant Goat. Everything on this CD is improvised, albeit subject to slight editing. Even the sound sources are improvised – Ola's voice screamsinging is a development from white voice singing, the Big Stick is a self-designed and self-made electric monolin. Both are probably unique. While there is a wealth of musical and sound history behind each of the duo and comparisons can be made, there is no direct conscious influence. In performance, there is an element of unpredictability present – for the performers as much as the audience – perhaps reminiscent of Dada performances. And just as Dada was a movement that grew from the abhorrence of the carnage of the First World War, so Mutant Goat draw on the ur-sound of the impending post-human world. For in these pieces, there are no more humans, no traces of human history. And this is our current crisis.
The CD is called Yonder. Yonder speaks of what can be seen ahead in time and space. The listener is thrust into a landscape that is unfamiliar and unwelcoming. Yet it has its beauty. No-one is here. No-one is over there. To gaze across the barrenness is to know that there is no human life to be found and maybe nothing else, either. We now live in a self-produced pre-apocalyptic moment - what Naomi Oreskes and Erik Conway term the Penumbra Period - of knowing our time is done because we did nothing to save ourselves. Less ur-sound than were-sound.

Ola Kozioł (Łódź, Polska) i Andrew Dixon (Londyn, UK) spotkali się przypadkowo.
To przypadkowe spotkanie połączyło dwa elementy: "biały głos" czyli śpiew typowy dla muzycznej kultury folkowej Europy Środkowej i Wschodniej oraz buczenie i nad-pod-dźwięki produkowane przez instrument jednostrunowy.
Rezultatem jest Mutant Goat.
Wszystko na tej płycie jest improwizowane, choć zostało poddane delikatnej edycji. Nawet źródła dźwięku są improwizowane - głos Oli „śpiewokrzyk” jest rozwinięciem białego śpiewu, a Big Stick, instrument na którym gra Andrew, jest samodzielnie przez niego zaprojektowanym, elektrycznym monostrunowcem.
I jedno i drugie jest prawdopodobnie wyjątkowe. Mimo, że istnieje dźwiękowe i muzyczne dziedzictwo w odniesieniu do każdego z elementów duetu i możliwe są wszelakie porównania, to przynajmniej na poziomie świadomości, nie miała miejsca żadna bezpośrednia inspiracja.
Element nieprzewidywalności jest udziałem zarówno wykonawców jak i publiczności Mutant Goat, co może nieco przypominać spektakle Dada. I tak jak ruch Dada wzrastał w odrazie do rzeźni I wojny światowej, tak Mutant Goat nawiązuje do idei pradźwięku zbliżającego się, post-ludzkiego świata. Przesilenia naszego teraz.
Płyta nosi tytuł Yonder [Tam]. Yonder opowiada o tym, co można zobaczyć w przyszłym czasie i przyszłej przestrzeni. Słuchający staje się częścią krajobrazu, który jest nieoswojony i nieprzyjazny. Jakkolwiek przesycony swoistym pięknem. Nie ma tu nikogo. Nie ma tam nikogo. Wpatrywanie się w jałowość krajobrazu oznacza wiedzę, że nie ma tam ludzkiego życia, albo może nawet nie ma tam niczego. Żyjemy teraz w momencie pre-apokaliptycznym, który sami stworzyliśmy, momencie, który Naomi Oreskes i Erik Conway nazwali Okresem Penumbra [Półcienia] – momencie wiedzy, że nasz czas się skończył, ponieważ nie zrobiliśmy nic, żeby siebie uratować.
Być może zatem jest mniej pradźwięk a bardziej byłydźwięk.
